Dimorphodon UK 2021 Brilliant Uncirculated 50p Coin

As one of the top 10 British Women to have played a pivotal role in science, according to The Royal Society of London for Improving Natural Knowledge, Mary Anning is best known for her groundbreaking discoveries of dinosaur fossils in her home town of Lyme Regis that disrupted previous beliefs in the scientific community.

As a woman living in the early 1800’s she was rarely credited for her work with her male counterparts being taken more seriously. So, to honour her life’s work The Royal Mint have created a three-part collection in her honour. 

Featuring on the reverse of the third and final coin in this series is the Dimorphodon - one of the earliest known flying reptiles that had a wingspan of around 1.7m. Mary Anning’s name and the year of its discovery can also be seen. 

This Brilliant Uncirculated 50p comes presented in fold out packaging that has been developed in collaboration with the Natural History Museum, London. 

This is a historically significant coin that celebrates British women’s contributions to the worldwide scientific community.
