Description
Heraclius was dispatched to Constantinople by his father and he achieved victory over Phocas, who was byzantine emperor from 602 to 610. The troops of the Persian Sassanid Empire, the old archenemy of Byzantine, penetrated extensive regions of Asia Minor in the year 611 and eventually also conquered Jerusalem in 614.
It was here that the Persians secured the Holy Cross. Heraclius proclaimed a holy war against the Persian ruler Khosrow II. In the year 628, Emperor Heraclius brought the Holy Cross back to Jerusalem in a ceremonial procession. Heraclius was the first emperor of the Heraclian Dynasty, which represented the Byzantine rulers for more than 100 years.
The gold coin was minted in Constantinople. It depicts Heraclius and his two sons Heraklonas and Constantine on the obverse, and the Holy Cross on the reverse.
The almost 1400-year-old coin is encapsulated and presented in an elegant real wooden box with a certificate.
