The Gold of the Gauls

As a template, the Gallic coin masters served an ancient Greek gold Stater. The Bellovaci were one of the most powerful tribes of Gaul. Their homeland was in the North of present-day France.

In 46 BC, the tribe was involved at the last Battle of Gauls against Julius Caesar, which ultimately led to the defeat of the Gauls and through this, the associated integration into the Roman Empire.

The antique gold Stater depicts a portrait of the god Apollo on the obverse and a galloping horse on the reverse.
